7 Laptops With More Than 5 Hours Battery Life

Looking for laptops with more than 5 hours battery life? Here are seven laptops I pick for you. Why I choose laptops with more than 5 hours battery life – not those which have more than 7 or even 10 hours battery life? Because people averagely work on their laptops for about 5 hours daily. Some may consider that 5 hours battery life is not enough for their need. 5 hours is the minimum battery life from any laptop that I use. If it has less than 5 hours battery life than the laptop will be not ‘that’ portable.
There are some variables that make the laptop’s battery could serves longer or shorter. The most significant factor is the laptop’s screen. Wider screen needs more power to run. That’s why, today, there are many netbooks which claim that they have more than 10 hours battery life. Netbook’s screen that only about 10 to 12 inch makes their batteries last longer. But with the use of good power management software, today’s laptops are able to manage the use of energy from the battery more efficiently.
ASUS UL30A-A2 12 hours battery life laptopBesides the screen, laptops peripherals also responsible for the battery life. Laptops features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, hard drives, DVD or BlueRay drive need a lot of power to work. That’s why now you can find some laptops with SSD to replace the use of hard drive that works mechanically. SSD will let your laptop works much faster and save more energy. Apple’s MacBook Air series is the perfect example of how SSD improves speed and energy saving from a laptop. You need to turn off your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when they are not in use to give you more time doing things on your laptop.
The heart of your laptop – the processor – is also taking a great role in making your battery serves you longer or shorter. But I bet you know that the laptop works based on your command. If you ask it to works doing complex computing like rendering your movies or playing extreme games, than of course you cannot stay away from a plug. Recent laptop equipped with great power management to make your laptop work efficiently.
So, now here is those 7 laptops with more than 5 hours battery life for you:

Two Important Upgrades of Apple’s MacBook

Apple MacBook MC516LL A 13.3-Inch LaptopApple has just updated it famous MacBook. This update brings some new differences between the 2010 MacBook and the 2009’s model. Although these updates doesn’t totally changed the MacBook lines, but still it keeps Apple’s MacBook as the top rated laptops.

Here are two important upgrades of Apple’s 2010’s MacBook

  1. Integrated Geforce NVidia 320M processor with 48 processing cores. The 2009’s MacBook model used Geforce 9400M. It significantly increases its power to do heavier graphical tasks. And in return, it helps users to create contents in a more efficient way.
  2. 2010’s MacBook now supports video and audio completed with a compatible Mini-DP to HDMI adapter. 2009’s model only supported video.

What else do 2010’s MacBook brings compared to 2009’s MacBook?

The new MacBook is now powered with 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Last year’s model has the 2.4 GHz processor. It keeps the Polycarbonate unibody, 1280 x 800 resolution Glossy LED backlit screen, and iSight camera. By default, this newest MacBook model has 2 GB RAM (1 GB RAM sticks x 2), 250 GB hard drive, 8x slot-loading SuperDrive DVD burner, large multi-touch track pad which is now also embedded with Intertial scrolling ability, 2 USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi - 802.11n specification; 802.11a/b/g compatible, Bluetooth 2.1 and Gigabit Ethernet -10/100/1000.

Apple stated that the new built in battery could last for about 9 to 10 hours. Well, it really depends on what you are doing with MacBook. To have 3 to 6 hours battery life on this MacBook is a great thing.

So, what else do you need the most?

Your brand new Apple’s Macbook is good for basic computing activities – like browsing the web, typing articles or watching movies. However, if you're planning to buy a Macbook for multimedia work, such as editing high resolution photos or HD videos and plan to use many multiple applications at the same time, please be sure to upgrade the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB. Why?

Because using a MacBook with 2 BG of RAM to multitask is a great way to drive yourself crazy, as the MacBook will ‘struggle’ to keep up the works. Try editing 10 megapixel RAW images while playing music in iTunes with Safari open. 2 GB of RAM is not at all adequate for multitasking / using processor intensive applications on a Macbook.

Now, it is up to you, but there is a choice for you to make your MacBook runs just like what you expect. Upgrading the RAM yourself from 2 GB to 4 GB is a great idea. But remember that the price of DDR3 1066 mhz RAM (compatible with Macbook and MacBook Pro) is still high. Currently, the Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2) costs $71.74.

With this 4GB RAM’s upgrade, you don’t have to cramps your fingers to wait for your MacBook to finish editing large RAW images or HD videos. The other option is just buy the standard MacBook Pro 13 inch. The processor and hard drive are the same in both the MacBook and MacBook Pro 13 ( 2.4 ghz Core 2 duo and 250gb hard drives). But the 4 GB RAM will make a big difference in the daily usage experience.

How to Choose the Best Laptop for College Student

If you are a college student, choosing the best laptop that suits with your need is not really easy. There are so many laptop manufactures that proudly declaring their laptop is the best. I’m sure that you agree with me that they are not lying. Have you scratched your head because of those confusing information about the brands, sizes, warranty packages, and of course prices of those best laptops? Well, if you do so, here are some tips you can use in choosing the best laptop for college student. You can use these tips to help you deciding which one of laptops that have already in your mind to buy. It is important to understand what the differences between choosing the most needed laptop and the most wanted laptop. Lets take a look:
1) What the laptop will be used for. This is actually the very first consideration before buying almost every stuffs. And buying best laptop for student is not an exception. Ask yourself: are you going to use the laptop for web designing? Or, is your study requires you stay connected with the internet? Are you going to use it to work with heavy applications like Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw, or even Autodesk 3D Studio Max? Or maybe you are just going to do simple computing routine like typing your papers? Those questions requires your answers to help you finding the best laptop without spending too much money on it unnecessarily. Keep reading as you will find the answers of these questions in the summary. Lets ask a few more questions before we decide though.
2) Do you need to do any upgrades to your laptop? This is the second biggest consideration after you decided on what the laptop will be used for. The first year college students may have different needs compared with the second, third, or last year students in their computing routines. Now, decide which one is better for you, upgrade your laptop? Or buy a new one when your need to do more with your laptop? Buying a new laptop is not always a good choice when your budget is not allowing you to do that. So, the first option is maybe better for you. That’s why, consider to find an upgradable laptop. The  very first thing to upgrade is the laptop’s RAM (Random Access Memory), and then the laptop’s hard drive, and other accessories. Ask your local dealer whether your chosen laptop is upgradable. At least on those crucial items. This upgradability will save you a lot of money in the future. Once again, don’t waste your money on what you do not exactly need.
3) The size does matter. I’m trying to remind you of those Godzilla. Here is the case, you are going to move a lot. From your house or lodging house to campus, or from class to class. Don’t put your mildly expensive investment dropped on the ground when you are in hurry. Or don’t let your shoulders hurt because of such a heavy laptop’s bag. Believe me that you have to consider your laptop as your spouse. It is your primary study tool. You’ll get yourself in trouble when your laptop doesn’t bring you comfort in life. So, if you think that you are going to move a lot, pick the laptop that doesn’t requires you to go the massage parlor every week end. But don’t forget that the smaller the laptop the smaller also the keyboard. If you you have ten big fingers, then the 12 or 13 inches laptop will be good for you.
4) Money. Of course money is not the most important factor to consider in buying laptop for college student. As technology improves in leaps and bounds every year that goes by, you are going to find that the costs become less. But we do have to find a happy, acceptable medium between all the points we have put into consideration so far.
Here we come to the pre-conclusion (the final one is of course in you (and your parents))
How to choose the best laptop for college student? What to consider when searching for the best laptop for college students?
  1. Desired usage
  2. Laptop’s upgradability
  3. The size
  4. The best laptop prices that have all medium requirements
Have you found your laptop yet? I’m not selling one of those. But here is my recommendation. The Apple MacBook Air series. Right now there are two options, the 11 and 13 inches MacBook Air. Read the MacBook Air review. The reason is simple, they are known for their iron-clad resistance to viruses, lots of free software that come standard, will make you look good, and easy learning curve. If you are now using PC’s with Windows OS, you can simply adapt yourself into this machine for now you can have Microsoft Office installed MacBook.
If MacBook Air is too expensive, you still have many other laptops for college student.

Canon EOS 550D: Best Entry Level DSLR Camera

Canon EOS 550DCanon EOS 550D comes with new sensor and screen. After about a year ago Canon successfully launched the Canon EOS 500D, in 2010 it launched a new camera for entry-level class with this new Canon EOS 550D. Judging from the code, the EOS 550D is actually the successor of the EOS 500D. What kind of changes are brought by the EOS 550D? What new features are embedded in this entry-level Canon DSLR camera?
Canon EOS 550D still has similar physical appearance to Canon’s previous series (like the 450D and 500D). But there are few minor differences in body indentations that are now more rounded. The laying of the buttons around the body is also still the same as the previous series. The form of buttons that surround the LCD screen on the back has now become more square, not round anymore like the previous series. Knob is set in shooting modes remain on the upper right, adjacent to the button to set the ISO and the shutter button.
Because Canon EOS 550D is positioned as entry-level class DSLR, it features a compact body size. For those of you who have big hands, this camera may be less comfortable because its grip is not big enough. But for most people, the size of the grip is quite comfortable. When it is held too, the grip does not feel slippery because of the presence of the rubber layer covering it.
Peered into the back, there is a viewfinder mirror that size is not too big. This viewfinder has magnification of 0.87 x and covers about 95% of the actual frame. Below the viewfinder there is an LCD screen that allows you to display the shooting parameters, see the captured image, or display the object in the live-view mode. Well, it uses the LCD screen is one of the changes made by Canon. Section 3-inch screen size is to use 3:2 aspect ratio, in contrast to previous models that still use the 4:3 ratio. By using a ratio of 3:2, the displayed image will fill the entire screen in accordance with the format photographs are also 3:2.
Canon EOS 550D is equipped with a new CMOS sensor that capable of producing images with up to 18 mega pixels. APS-C sized sensor is also supported by Canon's unique image processor that is DIGIC 4. While in terms of shooting speed, the EOS 550D has a speed similar to its predecessor, which is about 3.5 frames per second, either in RAW or JPEG mode. This camera has a broad ISO range from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 with multiples of every single stop. In addition, there is also an ISO expansion up to an even higher stop until the equivalent of ISO 12,800.
From the support side of the lens, Canon EOS 550D is claimed compatible with all Canon EOS system of lenses, both EF and EF-S. In addition, this camera is also compatible with lenses from third-party brands that make a lens with Canon mount. But keep in mind that, because this camera uses APS-C sensor, there is a multiplier factor of 1.6 x. focus range.
We felt comfortable using this camera. The process is fairly quick, starting from when the camera is turned on until the camera is ready to take pictures. Everything is completed in just seconds. The picture is also fairly good, including the performance at high ISO. In our opinion, the images at ISO 3200 still includes net from the noise. New noise began to appear at ISO 6400 but has not been so disturbing. At ISO 12 800, the noise has been felt quite disturbing and only suitable for use in emergency situations. Looking at the features and capabilities it possesses, Canon EOS 550D is one of the entry-level digital SLR camera that performed very well. This camera is suitable for all circles, both novice users or advanced users who want a good compact digital SLR camera.

HP Envy - I do Actually, I’m not using any HP’s products right now. But some of my friends do. And as what they said about their HP’s notebooks and netbooks, they only have some minor complaints which were usually caused by their own mistakes in handling the notebooks. I’m quite sure that they will also face the same problems when they use other notebooks.

My brother has been using HP’s notebook for about a year now. He has no complaint about it. So I think HP’s notebooks are really great. What do you think?

MacBook Air MC504LL/A 13.3-Inch: Worth Buying Laptop?

MacBook Air MC504LLA 13.3-Inch Worth buying laptopMacBook Air MC504LL/A 13.3-Inch. What do you have in mind? Without even read any MacBook Air review out there, I bet you already have something positive on its portrays in your mind, don’t you? Here we have the new MacBook Air MC504LL/A with 13.3-inch display. No wonder that from its appearance, we’ll see an incredibly thin yet surprisingly sturdy case. We’ll also presented with the new trackpad gesture controls that are very useful. And also the remote optical drive that would make your live without a built-in drive laptop much easier. But do those amazing features on the MacBook Air MC504LL/A do not also brings some draw back?
Maybe this new Apple’s MacBook Air laptop is not the true ultraportable that many had hoped for, but it still easily breaks new ground for small laptops. Mimicking the 13-inch silhouette of the current MacBook line, it's only 0.76 inch thick at its thickest, and Apple calls it the "world's thinnest notebook.
I do agree that the design and engineering that went into the MacBook Air is extraordinary, but it's certainly a much more specialized product than the standard 13-inch MacBook and won't be as universally useful as that popular system. The biggest compromises, which have been well-documented, come in its connectivity: The MacBook Air finds room for only two USB ports and doesn't include a built-in optical drive, FireWire, Ethernet, or mobile broadband. And like with its other laptops, Apple refuses to outfit the Air with a media-card reader or an expansion card slot. Offsetting its sparse connectivity are genuinely useful new features including new trackpad gesture controls and the ability to wirelessly "borrow" another system's optical drive. What would your life be with two USB ports on your laptop?
Physically, the footprint is not much different than a 13-inch MacBook or MacBook Pro that other members of my household own. However, it's the thinness and light weight of this design that brings out the "wow," for those who see it. If you want to use it on your lap in a large chair or sofa, it is simply comfortable. If you need to stop while walking, and stand against a wall and check something very quickly, while it can still be slightly awkward, the light weight makes this possible. Still, I'd try not to do this, in fear of dropping the precious unit. You do see some Apple marketing images of people using the device standing up. This would likely be even more comfortable with the 11-inch model.
The reason one would choose this updated 13-inch MacBook Air is simple! This particular model gives you the thinness and light "wow," factors that defined the MacBook Air since its introduction nearly four years ago. However, this model gives you something that was not offered at this price point previously. A nearly fully functional and performing notebook computer. The included 1.86 GHZ Core 2 Duo processor is not a slouch. 2GB of memory is not bad in efficient OS X, and the 256 GB of solid state memory is not only competitive storage capacity to similar notebooks, but yet it is incredibly fast. The slight hit in processor and memory compared to a MacBook Pro is at least partly made up for by the speed of solid state memory. Just check out the boot up time on this device. It boots up fast. Plus, when it sleeps, open it back up, for instant on. It's a new way of experiencing a computer.
This 13-inch model has a higher resolution display than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, so you will fit more of your windows, pictures, etc. on the display. Indeed, it matches the resolution of the stock 15-inch models. What don't you get on this model and do I miss it? Obviously, once again, Superdrive is missing. I do not miss this. I have Superdrive on my desktop computer, and you can always buy the USB Superdrive for less than one hundred dollars, if you want that capability when at your desk. This Air loses the backlit keyboard, one suspects due to the even slimmer and lighter design.

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard Helps You Type Comfortably

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is not only for gamers – keyboard’s particular market, – the illuminated keyboard is also made for anyone who works a lot with their keyboard. The bottom line is that it is carefully designed to give you the most pleasurable typing experience. Don’t you want one? You know that if you like working in dark conditions, has a backlit keyboard is convenient. It's not mandatory by any means, but it makes typing a little easier - especially for those who have seen the key from time to time, as I do. And with a name like "PerfectStroke Key System", Logitech is setting high expectations a little. So, does the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard live up to hype?

Mental keyboard

logitech illuminated keyboard Let's cut to chase: is this Logitech’s keyboard good? Hell yes! I first became interested in it because of the design, but after trying, I immediately liked Logitech PerfectStroke Key System. Subtle touch of the key and just as Logitech said the long trip is 50% longer when compared with a typical laptop keyboard and certainly longer than Apple's flat keyboard. Finally and thankfully, Logitech has decided to use standard layout to the directional keys (arrows), "home" and "end" button. I really dislike the layout found on other keyboards from the brand.

Physical Design

This is the best looking keyboard from Logitech, period. A surprising consistency of light intensity (I have some of this), basically down to using more LED lights, better plastics and in the end, making the product a little more expensive, but it shows. Overall quality of material and finish is great. Thin transparent edge gives classy look that is reminiscent of the high-end flat televisions. There are four levels of lighting, so that in a state of the keyboard may be too bright lighting.

Conclusion

I think that the Logitech Illuminated keyboard is nice and comfortable keyboard. The Key PerfectStroke system has good mechanical properties and convenient for use in general. I personally would prefer a shorter key travel (I type faster with a short trip), but you should try for yourself - it is fine. In the future, there are some things that Logitech could do to make it better: go wireless, make it smaller (width, height), cheaper and ... use aluminum?

Why People Buy Small Laptop Computers?

Why people buy small laptop computers?
Why people buy small laptop computers? What about you? Do you have one? Or consider to buy one this month? Before we draw conclusion to take the best reason why people buy small laptop computer, let us now discuss what is exactly the small laptop computers, or small notebook computers, or whatever you may call a small sized computers.
Basically, the small laptop computers come in two basic configurations. The smallest is an UMPC or Ultra Mobile PC, and the second one is a subnotebook called a netbook. They are setting up a marketing segment called Mini Notebooks.  The most important factor that differentiate UMPC and netbook are their display screen size, processor capability, and operating system.  The UMPC is typically comes with 7 inches screen size or less, while netbook comes in 9 inch, 10 inch and 12 inch screen sizes. Now you can find netbook that has 13 inches screen size. Some people would considerably call it a laptop, not a netbook, but when they figure out its specification, they will agree that it is not a laptop, but a netbook. The size and capabilities of this computers arise such a never ending debate just to categorize that mini laptop into a netbook, UMPC, or laptop.
