Two Important Upgrades of Apple’s MacBook

Apple MacBook MC516LL A 13.3-Inch LaptopApple has just updated it famous MacBook. This update brings some new differences between the 2010 MacBook and the 2009’s model. Although these updates doesn’t totally changed the MacBook lines, but still it keeps Apple’s MacBook as the top rated laptops.

Here are two important upgrades of Apple’s 2010’s MacBook

  1. Integrated Geforce NVidia 320M processor with 48 processing cores. The 2009’s MacBook model used Geforce 9400M. It significantly increases its power to do heavier graphical tasks. And in return, it helps users to create contents in a more efficient way.
  2. 2010’s MacBook now supports video and audio completed with a compatible Mini-DP to HDMI adapter. 2009’s model only supported video.

What else do 2010’s MacBook brings compared to 2009’s MacBook?

The new MacBook is now powered with 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Last year’s model has the 2.4 GHz processor. It keeps the Polycarbonate unibody, 1280 x 800 resolution Glossy LED backlit screen, and iSight camera. By default, this newest MacBook model has 2 GB RAM (1 GB RAM sticks x 2), 250 GB hard drive, 8x slot-loading SuperDrive DVD burner, large multi-touch track pad which is now also embedded with Intertial scrolling ability, 2 USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi - 802.11n specification; 802.11a/b/g compatible, Bluetooth 2.1 and Gigabit Ethernet -10/100/1000.

Apple stated that the new built in battery could last for about 9 to 10 hours. Well, it really depends on what you are doing with MacBook. To have 3 to 6 hours battery life on this MacBook is a great thing.

So, what else do you need the most?

Your brand new Apple’s Macbook is good for basic computing activities – like browsing the web, typing articles or watching movies. However, if you're planning to buy a Macbook for multimedia work, such as editing high resolution photos or HD videos and plan to use many multiple applications at the same time, please be sure to upgrade the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB. Why?

Because using a MacBook with 2 BG of RAM to multitask is a great way to drive yourself crazy, as the MacBook will ‘struggle’ to keep up the works. Try editing 10 megapixel RAW images while playing music in iTunes with Safari open. 2 GB of RAM is not at all adequate for multitasking / using processor intensive applications on a Macbook.

Now, it is up to you, but there is a choice for you to make your MacBook runs just like what you expect. Upgrading the RAM yourself from 2 GB to 4 GB is a great idea. But remember that the price of DDR3 1066 mhz RAM (compatible with Macbook and MacBook Pro) is still high. Currently, the Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2) costs $71.74.

With this 4GB RAM’s upgrade, you don’t have to cramps your fingers to wait for your MacBook to finish editing large RAW images or HD videos. The other option is just buy the standard MacBook Pro 13 inch. The processor and hard drive are the same in both the MacBook and MacBook Pro 13 ( 2.4 ghz Core 2 duo and 250gb hard drives). But the 4 GB RAM will make a big difference in the daily usage experience.

How to Choose the Best Laptop for College Student

If you are a college student, choosing the best laptop that suits with your need is not really easy. There are so many laptop manufactures that proudly declaring their laptop is the best. I’m sure that you agree with me that they are not lying. Have you scratched your head because of those confusing information about the brands, sizes, warranty packages, and of course prices of those best laptops? Well, if you do so, here are some tips you can use in choosing the best laptop for college student. You can use these tips to help you deciding which one of laptops that have already in your mind to buy. It is important to understand what the differences between choosing the most needed laptop and the most wanted laptop. Lets take a look:
1) What the laptop will be used for. This is actually the very first consideration before buying almost every stuffs. And buying best laptop for student is not an exception. Ask yourself: are you going to use the laptop for web designing? Or, is your study requires you stay connected with the internet? Are you going to use it to work with heavy applications like Adobe Photoshop or Corel Draw, or even Autodesk 3D Studio Max? Or maybe you are just going to do simple computing routine like typing your papers? Those questions requires your answers to help you finding the best laptop without spending too much money on it unnecessarily. Keep reading as you will find the answers of these questions in the summary. Lets ask a few more questions before we decide though.
2) Do you need to do any upgrades to your laptop? This is the second biggest consideration after you decided on what the laptop will be used for. The first year college students may have different needs compared with the second, third, or last year students in their computing routines. Now, decide which one is better for you, upgrade your laptop? Or buy a new one when your need to do more with your laptop? Buying a new laptop is not always a good choice when your budget is not allowing you to do that. So, the first option is maybe better for you. That’s why, consider to find an upgradable laptop. The  very first thing to upgrade is the laptop’s RAM (Random Access Memory), and then the laptop’s hard drive, and other accessories. Ask your local dealer whether your chosen laptop is upgradable. At least on those crucial items. This upgradability will save you a lot of money in the future. Once again, don’t waste your money on what you do not exactly need.
3) The size does matter. I’m trying to remind you of those Godzilla. Here is the case, you are going to move a lot. From your house or lodging house to campus, or from class to class. Don’t put your mildly expensive investment dropped on the ground when you are in hurry. Or don’t let your shoulders hurt because of such a heavy laptop’s bag. Believe me that you have to consider your laptop as your spouse. It is your primary study tool. You’ll get yourself in trouble when your laptop doesn’t bring you comfort in life. So, if you think that you are going to move a lot, pick the laptop that doesn’t requires you to go the massage parlor every week end. But don’t forget that the smaller the laptop the smaller also the keyboard. If you you have ten big fingers, then the 12 or 13 inches laptop will be good for you.
4) Money. Of course money is not the most important factor to consider in buying laptop for college student. As technology improves in leaps and bounds every year that goes by, you are going to find that the costs become less. But we do have to find a happy, acceptable medium between all the points we have put into consideration so far.
Here we come to the pre-conclusion (the final one is of course in you (and your parents))
How to choose the best laptop for college student? What to consider when searching for the best laptop for college students?
  1. Desired usage
  2. Laptop’s upgradability
  3. The size
  4. The best laptop prices that have all medium requirements
Have you found your laptop yet? I’m not selling one of those. But here is my recommendation. The Apple MacBook Air series. Right now there are two options, the 11 and 13 inches MacBook Air. Read the MacBook Air review. The reason is simple, they are known for their iron-clad resistance to viruses, lots of free software that come standard, will make you look good, and easy learning curve. If you are now using PC’s with Windows OS, you can simply adapt yourself into this machine for now you can have Microsoft Office installed MacBook.
If MacBook Air is too expensive, you still have many other laptops for college student.

Canon EOS 550D: Best Entry Level DSLR Camera

Canon EOS 550DCanon EOS 550D comes with new sensor and screen. After about a year ago Canon successfully launched the Canon EOS 500D, in 2010 it launched a new camera for entry-level class with this new Canon EOS 550D. Judging from the code, the EOS 550D is actually the successor of the EOS 500D. What kind of changes are brought by the EOS 550D? What new features are embedded in this entry-level Canon DSLR camera?
Canon EOS 550D still has similar physical appearance to Canon’s previous series (like the 450D and 500D). But there are few minor differences in body indentations that are now more rounded. The laying of the buttons around the body is also still the same as the previous series. The form of buttons that surround the LCD screen on the back has now become more square, not round anymore like the previous series. Knob is set in shooting modes remain on the upper right, adjacent to the button to set the ISO and the shutter button.
Because Canon EOS 550D is positioned as entry-level class DSLR, it features a compact body size. For those of you who have big hands, this camera may be less comfortable because its grip is not big enough. But for most people, the size of the grip is quite comfortable. When it is held too, the grip does not feel slippery because of the presence of the rubber layer covering it.
Peered into the back, there is a viewfinder mirror that size is not too big. This viewfinder has magnification of 0.87 x and covers about 95% of the actual frame. Below the viewfinder there is an LCD screen that allows you to display the shooting parameters, see the captured image, or display the object in the live-view mode. Well, it uses the LCD screen is one of the changes made by Canon. Section 3-inch screen size is to use 3:2 aspect ratio, in contrast to previous models that still use the 4:3 ratio. By using a ratio of 3:2, the displayed image will fill the entire screen in accordance with the format photographs are also 3:2.
Canon EOS 550D is equipped with a new CMOS sensor that capable of producing images with up to 18 mega pixels. APS-C sized sensor is also supported by Canon's unique image processor that is DIGIC 4. While in terms of shooting speed, the EOS 550D has a speed similar to its predecessor, which is about 3.5 frames per second, either in RAW or JPEG mode. This camera has a broad ISO range from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 with multiples of every single stop. In addition, there is also an ISO expansion up to an even higher stop until the equivalent of ISO 12,800.
From the support side of the lens, Canon EOS 550D is claimed compatible with all Canon EOS system of lenses, both EF and EF-S. In addition, this camera is also compatible with lenses from third-party brands that make a lens with Canon mount. But keep in mind that, because this camera uses APS-C sensor, there is a multiplier factor of 1.6 x. focus range.
We felt comfortable using this camera. The process is fairly quick, starting from when the camera is turned on until the camera is ready to take pictures. Everything is completed in just seconds. The picture is also fairly good, including the performance at high ISO. In our opinion, the images at ISO 3200 still includes net from the noise. New noise began to appear at ISO 6400 but has not been so disturbing. At ISO 12 800, the noise has been felt quite disturbing and only suitable for use in emergency situations. Looking at the features and capabilities it possesses, Canon EOS 550D is one of the entry-level digital SLR camera that performed very well. This camera is suitable for all circles, both novice users or advanced users who want a good compact digital SLR camera.

HP Envy - I do Actually, I’m not using any HP’s products right now. But some of my friends do. And as what they said about their HP’s notebooks and netbooks, they only have some minor complaints which were usually caused by their own mistakes in handling the notebooks. I’m quite sure that they will also face the same problems when they use other notebooks.

My brother has been using HP’s notebook for about a year now. He has no complaint about it. So I think HP’s notebooks are really great. What do you think?
